Expanding Design Possibilities with Looms and Technology That Support Creativity.

Yonezawa-ori Goes Global  Selected for the Osaka Expo

The origins of Saryu Textile date back to 1931, when its predecessor, Saryu Fiber Co., Ltd., was established. For decades, the company has played a crucial role in the textile industry as a Yonezawa-ori weaving manufacturer. In 2012, to support its continued growth, the company rebranded as Soto J-Tech Co., Ltd., Saryu Division, shifting its focus to BtoB textile production and supplying fabrics to both domestic and international brands.

With 18 looms at 63 inches (160 cm) width, the company is capable of high-volume production while also preserving traditional craftsmanship with its six rare leno looms. These specialized machines are essential for the future of the Yonezawa textile industry, and the company is dedicated to passing down weaving techniques to the next generation. Additionally, it maintains an archive of historical development recipes, which are continuously leveraged to explore new fabric innovations.

In collaboration with Tohoku Seiren Co., Ltd., Saryu Textile has been actively pursuing new technological advancements. One of its key achievements has been the development of MVA®-processed fabrics for the Osaka Expo, where they were selected for use in Expo staffs uniforms. Moving forward, the company remains committed to preserving artisanal expertise while continuously evolving to push the boundaries of textile innovation.

Connecting Makers and Designers to Weave the Ideal Fabric.

Since transitioning into Soto J-Tech Co., Ltd., Saryu Division in 2012, the company has significantly expanded its range of yarns, actively incorporating natural fibers such as wool and cotton to drive new textile development. While Yonezawa is traditionally known for its expertise in synthetic fiber processing, leveraging Soto Group’s advanced finishing techniques has allowed the company to move beyond synthetics and offer a diverse range of materials, including 100% cotton jacquard fabrics.

One of Soto Textile’s key strengths is its ultra-wide 75-inch (190 cm) looms. While most standard looms operate at 67 inches (170 cm) width, this broader weaving capability enables greater flexibility in pattern and material design. In particular, when using stretch yarns, this loom can better accommodate horizontal shrinkage, ensuring fabric width remains within design specifications while improving cutting efficiency. As a result, it serves as a vital tool for bringing designers’ visions to life.

By embracing such technological advancements, the company not only gains industry recognition but also plays a crucial role in sustaining the vitality of the local textile ecosystem, supporting twisting, warping, and dyeing specialists while contributing to preserving the craftsmanship and production network that define the Yonezawa textile industry.
